During a recent public address, Eni Chief Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi outlined the Group’s strategy to support the Brindisi Gigafactory, developed through a joint venture with Seri.
Descalzi explained that Eni is expanding into the value chain of critical raw materials required for battery manufacturing through investments in lithium and graphite. For lithium, the Group has acquired a stake in a Chilean company, while for graphite it has invested in Canada’s Nouveau Monde Graphite, with the aim of processing the material in Italy to support future production at the Gigafactory.
According to Descalzi, developing this supply chain is closely linked to the continued growth of renewable energy, which makes energy storage systems increasingly essential for ensuring grid stability and balancing electricity supply.
